How to Draw Upper Back Muscles - Form 背中上部の描き方 - 形 https //www.youtube.com/watch?v=7EgQdvh3c4k http //www.proko.com/how-to-draw-upper-back-muscles-form/ Welcome back to another episode of Proko, my name is Stan Prokopenko. In this lesson you ll learn how to draw the forms of the upper back muscles. Last time, you learned the origins, insertions, 3 key portions, and tendinous areas of the trapezius. But knowing how to track the muscles from origin to insertion is not enough. You should be able to visualize the 3d forms. !--ここから有料-- !--ここまで-- There s many different masses to consider. Not to mention how they change in different poses! The shoulders have incredible mobility and depending on how the scapula is positioned, the trapezius might bulge out around it or stretch thinly toward it. On the back of the neck are two vertical cylinders, separated by the nuchal ligament. On the surface, you ll see the vertical indentation expand to the flat diamond or teardrop shape of the tendon. In the middle of that tendon is the 7th cervical vertebra. A very important bony landmark. 01 30 !--ここから有料-- !--ここまで-- It s important to study areas of the back that are tendinous to understand the bumps, where the muscles protrude, and where the tendons stay flat. The big shape of this tendon will appear flat. It s flatness makes the trapezius muscle mass look thicker by contrast. Like how you look smarter when you re with your stupid friend. The two vertical cylinders thicken as they flow down to insert on the clavicles, which is visible in the front in certain poses even on non-muscular people. !--ここから有料-- !--ここまで-- While we re on anterior view, here s a basic figure drawing tip. Don t draw the shoulders at a right angle with the neck. The skeleton might look that way, sure, but the traps come down from the back of the skull at a soft curve to insert on the far edge of the shoulder. It s a nice sloping angle from neck to shoulders. If you draw it at a right angle, it will make your figure look like a groundhog. On a muscular person, the traps will bulge out at the acromion process. This makes a kind of smooth-then-sudden rhythm at the top of the shoulders. The deltoids start where the traps end and create a double-curve contour. The next one down is the middle portion that travels horizontally from the bottom half of the tendon to the spine of the scapula, like a cone. Often times it will blend with the upper portion, but on muscular figures it can appear distinctly individual. !--ここから有料-- !--ここまで-- This thickness is very obvious on muscular people, but will be plain to see even on lean people if the scapulas are pulled upward and inward and the traps are flexed. The spine of the scapula is subcutaneous and flat, but the muscle on top of it is overflowing like a muffin top. A muscular muffin top. Let s take a look at the lower portion. This mass can bulge out, but it isn t as spherical as the mass above the scapula. We ll talk more about the mass between the scapulas in a few minutes, since a lot of that mass is actually the rhomboid. At the corner of the scapula, where the bottom portion inserts, the tendon will cut out a C curve. I use this shape a lot to identify the corner of the scapula which then leads to the medial edge and spine of the scapula. This shape is very prominent especially when the muscle is flexing. !--ここから有料-- !--ここまで-- 05 13 As the tail travels downward, it covers the latissimus and ends with a W shape. So, you ll see a tail on both side of the trapezius. !--ここから有料-- !--ここまで-- The tail of trapezius won t always follow the expected path. Sometimes when the rhomboid is active, the trapezius slides off it toward the spine. So you might see a subtle edge of the trapezius wrapping around the medial side of the rhomboid. Speaking of rhomboid... The form of the rhomboid is very simple. As you know, the tail of the trapezius covers most of the rhomboid. It mostly serves to add mass to the area between the scapula, but as we mentioned, the tail of the trapezius is thin. So, sometimes you will see the shape of the rhomboid pushing through as an oblique bulge. Not sure if you re looking at a trapezius or rhomboid? Think about the direction of the muscle fiber. They have perpendicular oblique angles. In this photo, you can see the rhomboid on the left side, and the trapezius on the right side. What about when they re both active? Sometimes, you might see them both equally. Here s the bottom of the the rhomboid, and here s the tail of the trapezius. !--ここから有料-- !--ここまで-- When we don t understand the forms of the upper back, we end up just shading isolated blobs. But think about the complete shape of the trapezius and rhomboid and try to create a rhythm or flow between the masses. Show where it s coming from and where it s going. That s it! Go ahead and pat yourself on the back, because you ve learned all the back muscles! Or at least all the muscles you should know as an artist. If you re a surgeon, you should probably keep studying. Your assignment is to do quicksketch drawings showing the motion and form of the upper back. For the second bonus part of this assignment, pose Skelly using the Skelly App. Then invent the muscles on top. This is a true test of your knowledge because you have no reference to work from. You have to invent the forms based on what you learned in these lessons. You also have to make sure you position the scapula accurately. The app gives you complete freedom to rotate the scapula how you want, so you have to think about the limitations and accuracy of your poses. You can get the quicksketch drawing reference in the link below and the Skelly App at proko.com/skellyapp. Skellyアプリはproko.com/skellyappです。 Good luck and most importantly, have fun!

0101_How to Draw Butts From Any Angle 尻をあらゆる方向から描く方法 https //www.youtube.com/watch?v=JlHVjklE8bc https //www.proko.com/how-to-draw-butts-from-any-angle/#.W6hUF2j7Q-U So in my very, very first video, my first lesson I ever posted, we learned how to draw the head from any angle. Now that we ve grown up and matured a little bit, we re gonna learn how to draw butts from any angle. So this is the second butt lesson. In the first one we learned the anatomy of the butt. And you can start with this one. You don t have to stop and go to that one. But make sure after this, you go and you watch the anatomy of the butt because knowing the anatomy of the butt will help you draw the butt from any angle. But why is it even important to know how to draw butts? Well, have you ever drawn a person without a butt? People look a lot better with butts. Some people are famous because they have a butt. Some people pay a lot of money to be around other people with butts. Some people get paid to teach people about butts. So butts are great, let me show you how to draw them. Two curves are not enough to draw butts. I mean, it looks like a butt, but it s a very cartoony butt. Butts are thick. We need some form to get a better grasp on them. And as always, I like to start simple. So I wanna remind you guys about the Robo Bean. We ll do a quick review of the Robo Bean, kind of quick. And actually, if you did take, or if you saw my Robo Bean video a while back, was it like four years ago? You kind of maybe dismissed it because maybe you didn t understand why that s important. This video will be really good to show you how to actually put it into practice and how it could be used in combination with some anatomical knowledge to construct the figure very well, very simply, very efficiently. From the back view, you have an elongated box for the rib cage, and then the lower box represents the hips. And that lower box for the hips, as you could see, it s much shorter, maybe a little more than half. From the back view, we can t tell it very well, I ll draw another side view here, but top one is tilted backward. So we ll see a little bit of the top plane up here and a little bit of the bottom plane here, because they re not stacked perfectly vertically. And we re looking at this from the back. Sorry, let me just do a side view for you just so we know we re on the same page. There s that bottom hip box. My point here is that they re not stacked vertically. You see this one is tilted back this way, and this one is tilted back this way. This gives the back a little bit of arch. So when we re looking from the back, we can see a little bit of this bottom plane right here. And this is kind of where the glutes will turn, and we ll see the bottom of the butt coming back into the leg. Now connecting these boxes is important. The distance you put between the boxes is important. I see both mistakes Sometimes people really increase that distance between the rib cage and the hip, and sometimes people just compress it and there s no distance at all. More so, I see too much distance. Because the distance between this is just enough for those love handles, the obliques. It s kind of like that tire form as if you re wearing an inner tube. We went over that in the oblique episode. And then, down here right below the top of the box, you ll have the sacral triangle, the butt crack. And then this corner right here, that s not the gluteal fold, that s not the bottom of the butt that you ll see, you know, as it meets the leg. This is the corner right here. Now sometimes, if the leg is being extended backward, let s say the leg is like someone s doing almost like the splits, then, yeah, the leg is coming up quite a bit. It compresses the butt and the gluteal fold will be there. But in a neutral pose, where the leg is just coming down like that, it will be down here. That s where you ll find the gluteal fold, so somewhere in here. And keep in mind, this is a male proportion Robo Bean. Just in a minute here, I ll show you a female version. Another very important part about drawing a butt is connecting it to the legs like I was just talking about here. So connecting it to the rib cage with this inner tube tire form, connecting it to the leg, where basically the leg would be, you know, two cylinders. I always think of the greater trochanter, the bony landmark from the femur right here on the side, pretty much right in the middle of this box. From there, that s where the leg cylinder will kind of curve out. This form up here isn t part of the leg. This is the gluteus medius. Sometimes it s very developed in people, and it could be quite large as we ll see in some of the poses later on in this video. On someone who is defined, an athletic guy, you ll have a curve here, and then you ll have another curve out for the legs. And one more thing I ll point out before I move on to something a little more interesting than just front and side view is right in here. So this right here is the iliac crest, the part of the pelvis, and then it comes down right in here before we actually connect the leg to it. The leg muscles don t go all the way up to the ASIS. Well, they do, but the form of the quads as you see it if we simplify it, it will kind of come in and it will end right there, and you ll have this vertical. They re created by the hip muscles. They re not part of the quads. And more specifically since we actually just learned this, it s the tensor fasciae latae muscle that kind of comes down from the ASIS point and connects kind of right in here to the side of the greater trochanter. And then you have gluteus medius right here, and gluteus maximus kind of wrapping around right there. So you see this box pretty much just contains all the glute muscles plus the tensor fasciae latae, the hip muscles. And then, they connect to the iliotibial band, which come down and attach down here at the knee. We learned this in the last lesson so let s move on. And I m gonna correct the proportions here in a little bit. It s kind of bothering me. I said that most of the time we make the mistake of making them too far apart and I did exactly that. Okay, now let s explore the female proportions and the difference there. We ll start with this very similar shape for the rib cage. Let s make sure it s the same size here. Either the same size or maybe just a little bit smaller, a little narrower, but I m doing roughly the same size just so you could see the relationship between rib cage and the hips, male versus female. So here you go, female rib cage. The distance is gonna be pretty much the same. Now the width of the pelvis is gonna be wider, and it s gonna be more of a bell curve, kind of getting a little bit wider towards the bottom. You know, same thing again, we re seeing the bottom plane. Maybe even more so because a female spine is a little bit more flexible, and so this angle difference between the top and bottom is gonna be more extreme in a female. The biggest difference, male versus female, is that on a male, you re seeing it s pretty much just a straight line down. Everything is the same width. Here, we re gonna get more of that hour glass thing that you hear about. Bell curve at the bottom for the hips. And now, look at the waist area. Here we got a tire form, kind of just two curves, symmetrical. On a female, you can t just do a straight curve down because the hips get wider. What ends up happening is more like something like this ideally. Like on an idealized female, it will curve inward because the muscle isn t as developed as on a guy. Now of course, muscle isn t the only thing that causes... you know, that creates the form of the love handles, fat as well. So a female with maybe a little bit more fat in the waist, you ll get outward curves. Idealized, you see this all the time in like superheroes just like we re drawing more of an idealized guy, more muscular, more defined. We ll draw an idealized female, thinner in the waist, wider in the hip, thinner in the rib cage, okay. And then the same thing here, you ll have the sacral triangle just a little bit below. So these points, the PSIS points are just a little bit under sacral triangle. And one other thing. Interesting, there is gonna be a little bit of a gap on a female between the legs. The reason is because on the pelvis, the bones are actually spread out more, they re farther apart, and so the muscles connect farther apart, and then there s a gap. If there s more fat on the female or the muscles are very developed, that gap can close. But, just in relationship, the differences between male and female is that in men, the hips are more narrower, the legs are closer together. On a female, the hips are wider and legs are a little bit farther apart. Just a little bit of a gap. And so you can kind of see. I mean, I think it s pretty obvious. This is a male, that s a female. Overall though, the size difference, this looks like she s just a bigger person. That s because men have bigger rib cages. I drew the rib cages the same size to show you guys the relationships, but overall, if you have an average male, average female standing next to each other, she would just be smaller overall. Everything would just shrink. So now we understand the back, we understand the side, we understand male versus female. We got the general forms kind of figured out, right. But how do we draw this from any angle, right? That s the whole video. Well, now, we got to start thinking of this as actual boxes and not just rectangles. So, hopefully, you re comfortable drawing boxes because if you re not comfortable drawing boxes, you re not gonna be able to draw people from any angle. It s just... I mean, it just make sense, right? Like if you can t draw something as simple as a box, how are you expecting to be comfortable drawing something as complicated as people? So my point is, if you can t do this, if you can t draw a box like this, in perspective, freehand, I think maybe it s a little bit too early for you to be studying anatomy, and maybe go back to the figure course, learn simple forms, learn how to draw boxes. But there s the rib cage. It s basically these two planes, the back plane, the side plane in perspective. And I m drawing this from the front just to show you guys, in general, the Robo Bean concept. And now, this is tilting back a little. Now the bottom will be tilted forward a little bit, but the back edges, see the back edges are just right on top of each other. They re not touching, but they re aligned. And so, I could start with that back edge just to make sure it s aligned, and then tilt that top plane downward. So there s the top of the hips. And I know that these are the same width, so I m not worried right now. I m not thinking about, you know, adjusting the hip, the width of the box. I m just kind of dropping all these straight down, and then tilting this box back. Okay, so there s the Robo Bean in three quarters. It s in a neutral pose. There s no twist. There s no lean. There s no tilt forward. But that s what we ll do next. But first, we gotta be able to draw them in neutral pose like this. So this relationship showing you how you guys should relate these edges, these planes, that s important for you to understand, that you think about the angle differences. When this tilts, we re not gonna have the luxury of making this just kind of straight down, but we can start from straight down and then we can imagine the tilt and we can go from there. So, great exercises just to draw these forms from just many different angles back, front, side, looking up at it, looking down at it. Then, once you re comfortable with a neutral pose, then you can start moving the forms. And if it is maybe just a little bit too difficult for you to do this, you re struggling. You know how to draw a box, but you re just struggling a little bit to get these, remember the bean, not the Robo Bean, but just the bean. You can start with kind of a rough two-dimensional shape for these forms just to kind of get your mind to imagine those forms a little bit better, get the center line in there. Then you can start imagining the planes a little bit better, you know, and so on and so forth. I could take that bean and start making it into a Robo Bean. Okay, let s draw some poses. So this is the fun part. This is where we actually take this information and then we put into practice. So I m gonna start with this photo of Yoni because it s not too crazy. It s almost a neutral pose. His rib cage is pretty much kind of that... 彼の胸郭はほとんどこんな感じで... the same angle as we already drew, just pretty much straight from the back. It s got a little bit of a lean, right? It s not straight up and down. It s leaning to the left a little bit. But we re looking straight at the rib cage. The hips are twisting, so that s where we re adding a little bit of motion now, but it s very little. So one of the first things I like to look at when I m deciding how to place the two boxes is the angles of the shoulders. So I could see that the shoulders are kind of going up a little bit this way so I m creating that angle, and then the angle of the hips. And you can use the landmarks, and you can kind of see it around his waist, there s an angle there. And it s a little bit stronger, it s not parallel to the shoulders, something like that. And then, you know, it swings outward this way. But we re seeing a little bit of the side plane here. So this edge, right here, that s not the back edge, that s actually the front edge. The back edge is gonna be over here, and I think that it s gonna be... 背面の角はこれです、私が考えるにこれは... we re not gonna really see the top plane of that box. It s gonna be just a little bit downward. And so maybe we ll see a little bit of the bottom of this box, just like that. So there s a little bit of a twist there. So if we continue this, it will attach to the side of the rib cage. Now on this side, there s compression going on, right? These corners are closer together than these corners, and so, the oblique is gonna pop out a little bit. And Yoni s obliques aren t very full, so it s not the best example for the obliques, but I m just gonna exaggerate a little bit. And then, it kind of follows this curvature in here. There s a little wrinkle or the crease in here shows a twist a little bit. It reveals the twist a little more. But right here, this bulge in the oblique is gonna help to show the compression. On this side, it s stretched out more, and so you re not gonna get a giant bulge like that. That would be kind of strange. It s gonna be stretching out. And then, maybe you ll see a little bit of a bulge, just a very, very subtle volume down here as it attaches to the front of the pelvis. And then there s that tire. It s gonna be taller on this side, more straight, stretched out. Shorter on this side and bulging out. So the tire deforms with... タイヤチューブは変形します... you know, it has to kind of deform in order to fit between the rib cage and pelvis. You don t see any dimples on him, but I can kind of see where they would be, right where the pelvis kind of comes down. You can see that little shadow, and then right there, that s where the PSIS points are. There s the sacral triangle, beginning of the butt crack, and then it will continue downward. Remember, this edge is not the gluteal fold where it meets the leg. That s just the outermost point of the glutes. The glutes then starts to curve in a little bit and then they attach to the leg down here. Then we attach very simple cylinders to the bottom of that pelvis. And when you draw these lines, the connections between the glutes and the legs, think about the position of the leg. If it s being pulled back a little bit, you re going to curve the gluteal fold around the cylinder of the leg. If it s going forward, you re gonna pull it the other way. And we re gonna see this in a lot of other examples that are much more clear, but in general, just start to, you know, think about how the leg influences the form of the glutes. And that s basically, I mean, we got the basic form there. We can develop it a little more like, you know, start putting in a little bit of a core shadow. I m gonna keep this a little bit simple for this first drawing. Greater trochanter will be right there. The gluteus maximus just kind of goes in there. Tensor fasciae latae, right in there. And then, this whole mass in here is gluteus medius right above the greater trochanter. Of course, we can also start adding... you know, if I was to continue this drawing, I would add more information up here. Like, you know, his arm is extending out, which is bringing the lat muscle out more, and the neck would continue this gesture. So look what we have here. We basically... 我々は基本的に... the body is made up of two boxes. You got a rib cage, pelvis as boxes with the tire form in between. And then from that torso, you have five cylinders that are coming out cylinders of the legs, cylinders of the arms, cylinder of the neck. And those forms, let s see, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight forms, when you know how to control them and how they move in relationship to each other, you can build the body. And I just realized I forgot core shadow in here, simple design. Okay, so let s do another one, and then one from imagination. So here s a side view. Again, it s Yoni. We re pretty much looking right at the side and he s leaning forward a little bit, and he s twisting his pelvis, arching his back just a little bit. His hips are coming up, but again, he s twisting. So we re not just looking at the side of that pelvis. And actually, I m probably seeing a little bit of the top plane as well. So kind of indicate very simple top plane. There you go. So we re seeing a little... they re a very thin plane in there. Okay, most of the mass of the obliques is gonna be towards the front. In the back, you re not gonna get as much of a bulge. It s gonna be maybe more of a straight line, sometimes an inward curve. But it s not gonna bulge out as much as it does from a side view, like in there. So there s... kind of, if I take that inner tube of the obliques, and I think of it as not a perfect cylinder, but it has a side plane and a front plane, it would look like that. Okay, and then, the leg is just continuing that gesture backward. I m gonna show a little bit of compression here. Again, the leg is coming back. And similar to a bean, you know, the compressed side is gonna have this tension, and the stretched side is going to be elongated. And on the other side, a little straight, plane down, and then the leg will come out from here. You can see a really nice indication right along this edge of the tensor fasciae latae. That defines that front edge of the box. You can see a real strong core shadow right there. Even though that muscle is being kind of stretched out, you can still see it pretty clearly. And then his gluteus medius not very clear, but it will be right here. And then, this is the gluteus maximus coming out. Okay, cool, so we know we can look at a photo, we can kind of figure out what the boxes are, and then deconstruct that. I mean, this is useful not just to draw from life. We can use these simple forms, and if we ve memorized them, and we understand how they move, we can invent the body. We could just draw from our imagination. It makes it much easier to draw from imagination if that s how you think. You know, there s some people like Kim Jung Gi, who... 例えば、Kim Jung Gi(キム・ジョンギ)のような画家がいます... he can start with the details. He doesn t have to start with simple forms and then add on to it. But I m not like that, I need to construct. So let s try one more from the front because we got... さて、もう一つ、前から見たものを描いてみましょう、なぜなら、 we did a back view, we did a side view. Let s do one from the front now, and also kind of include the twist. So I m gonna start with the rib cage and I m actually gonna show a little bit of a side plane of that rib cage. So the center line will be over here. The rib cage faced directly towards me. Then I m gonna twist the pelvis to point the other way. So the rib cage is pointing that way, I m gonna make the pelvis point the other way. And also, I want to kind of tilt that a little bit. Shoulders, I guess I ve made the shoulders pretty much horizontal. Again, I m gonna make the pelvis lean this way. And even though the front planes aren t aligned, they should still be the same width. I should still consider the width here and the width here, and in perspective, they should feel like they re the same on a guy, and I m a drawing a guy here, so. And I m twisting here, right? So this pelvis is gonna be facing more to this way. Now, let s think of what connects them, the oblique. This side is pinching, and so, it s got... the oblique on here is going to be compressed, but it s also twisting. So I m gonna have this S curve in here. I m not gonna go into the lats right now. I m just thinking of simple forms. On this side, the oblique will connect along the top edge of the box, that s the iliac crest and stretch, because this is the stretching side. Okay, now, I m gonna just connect this center line to make one nice S curve. It s already feeling like a body twisting. I don t feel any of the anatomy there. It s very simple, but this makes it very easy for me to start imagining the forms and start placing them on top. So right here, let s say that s the pubic bone, and then, let s say the crest of the rib cage starts there, very simple bony landmarks. And then the abs will be in between that kind of twist with that S curve, okay. Belly button will be in here. Now, let s put those cylinders for the legs. His right leg is just gonna continue down kind of continue that gesture. It should be swinging that way to go along with the motion of the hips going that way. And actually, I should extend this leg cylinder up a little higher. Remember, from the iliac crest, the ASIS point, it will come down a little bit. And then the leg cylinder starts. Yeah, right about there. And then, the back leg, I m just gonna bring it the other way behind him. Okay, so pretty quickly, we ve established the motion of the body here. Okay, so let s move forward now. Let s do a few poses of females. First thing I m seeing, rib cage leaning this way, right? You could see that angle very clearly. Shoulders, something like this. And as far as if we re seeing the top or bottom plane, I m thinking probably, I d be leaning towards seeing more of the top plane of the shoulders, because, you know, remember the rib cage leans back in a neutral pose. And she is kind of twisting and even maybe leaning back a little more, arching her back. And so, I wanna make sure I m showing that. So there, a little bit of a top plane. And on the female, sometimes I don t even think of the box. Sometimes I just do like a cylinder for the top, and the center line, and that s kind of enough. Just because, in general, I wanna keep the female forms rounder, softer, and when I start putting too many boxes everywhere, it starts to look a little more masculine. So even in the hips, maybe think more of a bell curve kind of like a skirt shape. And actually, I think I m seeing a little mistake I m making. You see the little dimples on her back, that s two perfect landmarks to show you the exact angle of the box or the bell curve, whatever. I m making it way too horizontal. What s happening is there s not much of a bending in the waist. It s more of the whole torso is angled outward pushing the one side of the hip that way. So I m seeing a little bit of the side plane here as well, but notice how I m curving this. Yeah, and actually, in the spine, the spine tells us that there s not much pinching going on because this angle in here is almost the same as this angle of the top. There s a little bit of a stronger angle in the rib cage, maybe adjust that a little bit and make this a little more vertical. There, just a little bit. But mostly, the tension is happening in the hip, right here. So as I attach this leg cylinder, and then the other leg cylinder. Again, starts at the greater trochanter, comes out, okay. Now coming back to that gluteal fold, remember, the left leg is coming back more, the right leg is going forward more. And so look at the difference in the shapes I m gonna create. Right in here, and I can kind of see this shape a little bit in the photos as well. It s going down like that. And then on the other side, that will go the other way. Now, another concept that I wanna repeat, this is from the butt lesson on butt anatomy. There s the butterfly. So right in here, it s gonna pinch. We got two... 尻には二つの... basically, remember, two ovals on each side. On this side, you got an oval like this and like this, and then on this side, same thing although we ll see a little bit more, and then another one over here. And you can kind of see on the contour there, there s a little indentation. And so basically, you have the gluteus medius form with some fat extending out, comes in right in the middle of the hip. And then, another fat pad comes out and goes right into the leg. Now on this side, there s gonna be more compression because on here this is popping out. On here, it s going in. And so, you ll get more of an overlap between those forms, but it s the same forms. And actually, I just noticed that there s a little bit of twist, so I m gonna move the center line a little bit and that s what these wrinkles are, these creases are for. They show the twisting of the body a little bit better. And then, naturally those butterfly ovals will kind of create that sacral triangle. Let s add a little bit of a shadow pattern here real quick just because it really helps to reveal the forms. So this is the back plane, and right in here, we re going into more of a bottom plane. So there s the turn, but it still soft forms, so I m gonna keep the edge of my core shadow soft. And then on this side, I m gonna design the shadow pattern to reveal that butterfly shape a little bit more. Okay, good enough. This is how to draw butts, not how to draw the whole body. So let s move on to another one. This time I wanna do a more lean female just to show you that even on a really lean female, the butterfly still exists. And it s a butterfly that s based on not just on the musculature like on a guy, but it s based on some fat as well, even on a lean female. So Shannon is leaning forward quite a bit. Before we start, this is actually a very important thing, before you guys start drawing, don t just jump in. I was about to just jump in before I even looked at the photograph. Before you start drawing, spend a few minutes just looking. Try to imagine these boxes on her, and have a clear picture in your head. Have all those decisions made already before you put any marks on the page. Drawing isn t just about putting marks on the page, it s about thinking about what you re gonna do and having a clear vision. So, okay, I m looking at her. I m seeing that... I can see the side of her rib cage on the right side. I don t see the left side of her rib cage, probably seeing the bottom because I don t see the tops of her shoulders at all. So we re looking up at her rib cage a little bit. And then for the pelvis, I m seeing mostly the back. I m seeing more of the back of the pelvis than I m seeing the back of the rib cage. So there s a little bit of a twist going on, and it looks like the pelvis box is almost vertical. It s just vertical, and it s rotated a little bit so I can see the side. Okay, I got a clear vision and now let s represent it. If you have reference, that s good that you can start with maybe a little gestural curve. That angle is like that, and then I can add the sides. That gives me a much clearer idea of the plane here. If you re making it up from your mind, you might not be able to see those curves as clearly. Okay, so again, I ve captured a little bit of twist because look how close the center line is to the back edge up here, but it s very close to the middle here. So there s a little bit of a twist going on. I m seeing a little bit of a side plane here and a lot of side plane here, very compressed. I think it s important in this pose to design these obliques. A few pinching creases in here, and then the rib cage just kind of comes out from there. On this side, I m seeing a little bit of an oblique form, and then it gets really thin, stretches out, even gets concave in there as it makes its way to the rib cage, stretched out. And then, right in here, right where we got the top of the pelvis, then I m starting to see that butterfly shape. So I got one oval here, and then another one here. And you can see these forms. When you look at the contour, you re seeing one bump, two, and three. You guys see all those? This first one, that s the oblique attaching to the iliac crest. Then here you got the gluteus medius coming out, and then at the greater trochanter, we begin the leg with a fat pad on the side of the leg. That completes the butterfly shape right in here, this fat pad. Same thing on this side, except we re not seeing that pinch in here, the way the light is right now, it s not revealing this form very well because it s very flat lit in that area. The light s pointing right at it, but right there is the greater trochanter. That s where the leg cylinder comes out, and then actually the gluteal fold will be up here. This oval I put in, that kind of describes the entire fat pad, but the gluteal fold as it meets the leg, right there. This one is different because it s stretching, and I m gonna celebrate those differences. I m not gonna try to just make things like this, you know, in here. I m gonna celebrate that this is more of a straight. This is more of a curve that s stretching down into the leg. There s compression in here and there s stretching in here. Remember these angles, always be comparing these angles and the angle of the center line. I love those core shadows. So let s get those in there. Now, I see on this side, it s kind of just going like this, but I want to maybe reveal that butterfly shape, again, a little bit more than in the photograph. So what I m gonna do is in here I m gonna curve it back a little bit and create a straight right there. That actually will create a little more tension. It will follow this, give a parallel, reinforce this straight. Here you go. And then on this side, I don t wanna reinforce into straights instead I want to continue this curve down the leg, much more open curve. See how I m creating a lot more zigzags in this side even in here for this, the fat pad. Little zigzag from the crease into the core shadow, and then, again, in here into the leg. Zigzags create tension. Let s have even more fun with this one. Let s fill in the shadow. All right, cool. So definitely, you know, very three-dimensional. We ve captured the motion of the body by analyzing the three-dimensional forms and how they re related to each other. Okay, so I hope that helps you get a better grasp on the butt. In the next lesson, we re going to take a look at some extreme angles, up shots, down shots, and seated poses. So let s head over to the next episode.

How to Draw Pecs - Anatomy 大胸筋の描き方 - 解剖学 https //www.youtube.com/watch?v=PRM7pT-Yric http //www.proko.com/how-to-draw-pecs-anatomy/ Hey, you re watching Proko! I m Stan Prokopenko. As you might have guessed from the disturbing intro, this episode is about the Pectoralis Major muscle. Even though male and female chests look different, both have the same muscles. On a female, the pectoralis major is still visible under the breast tissue. What and Where? The pectoralis major is like a really flat box tucked into the corner of the clavicle and sternum that converges toward the humerus. Its shape is simple, but it gets a little tricky because the muscle fibers overlap in a folding fan pattern. Let s start with the basics. The pecs originate from the medial half of the clavicle s front plane, the entire length of the sternum, and the top of the external oblique s aponeurosis. The pectoralis inserts onto the humerus at the bicipital groove, which is a deep, oblique groove across the upper third of the humerus. It attaches with a tendon that s as wide as your wrist! The anterior deltoid head passes over the insertion and covers the tendon. ーーーーー ーーーーーー the pectoralis major has not one but four functions, all pertaining to shoulder movement. The pec pulls the arm forwards like for a high-five. Interestingly, the pec also helps to lower the arm. It can also adduct the arm sideways toward the body like a slap and rotate the arm medially, like for arm-wrestling. That s right, arm wrestling involves your chest. But how can the pecs do so many different things? The answer is in the Anatomical Structure. The pectoralis major is structured like a folding fan. The muscle bundles radiate out from the armpit. They actually cross over each other where the pecs lift off the rib cage. This twist means that the lowest bundles on the chest insert the highest on the humerus, and vice-versa. There are three key sections. The clavicular portion originates, unsurprisingly, on the clavicle. It s a narrow triangle that angles downwards to the insertion. It s also the thickest portion, and it can obscure the front plane of the clavicle. This is why you usually see just the top plane of the clavicle on a muscular body type. On a leaner person, the muscle is thin enough that you do see the front plane of the clavicle. It s separated from its clavicular neighbour, the deltoid, by the infraclavicular fossa. That s a fancy word for the little triangular groove between the two muscles. On the surface the clavicular portion appears to stretch the farthest to the arm. You ll see it rolling over the other sections just before it disappears under the deltoid. The other two portions of the pec go under this clavicular portion. The sternal portion is the largest of the three. It s also very thin, and you can sometimes see the ribs through it. You can distinguish the ribs from the pecs by their consistent horizontal angle. Pectoralis bundles are more oblique, and their angles radiate. Be aware of how the two pecs share the sternum. In the top half, the sternal bundles originate very close to each other, sometimes with no visible distance. On the lower half, the pecs insert closer to the edge of the sternum, so there s a triangular depression there. But this also varies. The gap between the pecs can be wild and crazy like a Rubin vase, or it can be a straight line down with a narrow gap. You pick which fits your character and picture better. Lastly, is the abdominal portion. This is the deepest and smallest layer of the pecs, pointing up laterally to the insertion. It originates from the aponeurosis of the external oblique along the level of the 5th rib. Remember from the last lesson that an aponeurosis is a large, thin tendon. The aponeurosis of the external oblique covers the rectus abdominis, and the abdominal portion of the pec attaches to the very top of it. On some people this section is very distinct and clearly lower than the other two sections, and on other people it s totally buried. Genetics. And much like the cherry on top of the proverbial ice cream, the nipple is the last thing to go on your man-chest sundae. The nipple s not a consistent landmark, since fat can sag the skin and move the whole nipple lower, but they re somewhere around 1 head measurement down from the chin. If you draw a 45A° angle out from the pit of the neck, it ll line up with nipple and the edge of the serratus muscle. Your homework is a two-parter. For part 1, do a tracing over a model photo of the pectoralis major and all of its bundles. If you re not sure how to do a tracing, refer back to the How to do an Anatomy Tracinga lesson. For part 2 of the assignment, invent the pectoralis major on top of photos of Skelly. I ve provided reference photos for part 1 and 2 in the link below. Download those and start drawing! If you have the Skelly app, you can create your own pose and draw the pecs on top. Post your work in our anatomy group at proko.com/groups! How to Draw HANDS - Details for Realistic Hands! 手の描き方 - 写実的な手のための細部 https //www.youtube.com/watch?v=a4qR2J5EL9M http //www.proko.com/how-to-draw-hands-details-for-realistic-hands/ Hey, you made it to Part 2 of the Proko Hand Drawing Master Superclass of Glory and..Awesome. In previous lessons I covered the bones, muscles and tendons of the hand. But even knowing all that anatomy is not enough. The hand has lots of layers and details that we ll cover in this lesson. This will help us get a more realistic result. Fingernails can define the perspective. Skin folds can create realism and enhance the gesture. Fat pads are soft and squishy and they react to the hand s movements. So, let s learn the surface details of the hand and how to use them. Let s start with the fat. There are numerous fat pads along the palm side of the hand. These pads are soft, round, and add thickness to the hand. They cushion your bones so they aren t grinding into everything you touch. Their malleability helps the hand get a good grip on stuff. Fat covers pretty much the whole palm, but it s not an even distribution. There are three key fat pads on the palm. Two sit on top of the muscle masses, and blend out their inner edges. With the addition of this horizontal pad at the base of the fingers, we get a donut. A weird square donut with a triangular hole. Ok, bad analogy.. Anyway, there s an indent in the center of your palm, which is helpful for gripping stuff and grabbing a soda. If you want to draw more interesting fingers, this part s for you! First, a hot tip for drawing the overall shape of the finger contrast straight lines and curved lines. Your fingers are cushioned by soft fat pads on the palm side, so draw this side with convex curves and soft forms that pinch when the knuckles flex. The dorsal side is just bone and tendon. Use straight lines, flatter planes and sharper corners to represent the hard bones. Just by contrasting straights and curves, even a simple cartoon can explain the anatomy of the hand. !--ここから有料-- !--ここまで-- In a straight finger, the fat pads on the palm side are stretched out and not as curvy. Yet the skin on the knuckles is compressed and has a lot of wrinkles. When the fingers bend, the fat pads on the palm side compress and get really curvy. Notice how the creases point in the direction of the knuckle. The skin on the knuckles stretches and reveals the boney structures underneath. Now, let s really look at those fat pads. Each finger segment has a unique shape. In general, you don t want to draw the same kind of shape over and over again. It doesn t look organic and interesting like the human body should; it looks artificial and fake. So, we want to find the nuanced differences between the finger joints, and take advantage of it in our drawings. I m starting with the gesture of the finger. A subtle s-curve that tapers thinner towards the tip. The proximal segment is the roundest and you can draw it just like that, with a pot belly. The middle section is the flattest of the three, so we can draw it a bit straighter. Imagine you ve got three people you have to fit in the back of a car. The middle guy is gonna get squished, so you want someone skinny who can make room for the others. The fingertip is upswept, and we can draw it like a wedge shape. You might even see an upward angle on the top plane as if the joint is bending back a bit. The thumb is an exaggerated version of the upward facing wedge shape. Steve Huston shows it as a dog head. Which brings us to the skin creases and folds. Imagine a piece of paper; when you bend it, you can straighten it out later, but there s still a fold marked on the page. The creases on the hand and wrist tell you its history, and where it bends. Most joints on your body have corresponding creases. Lines wrapping around each finger joint and even "bracelet lines" at the wrist. The back of the fingers follow this pattern the distal joint can be simplified to a single, straight line. The middle joint has a spiral pattern. You can usually find 3 main lines to represent it, a mix of straight and round. You ll see really subtle creases on the proximal knuckles, but nothing serious. On the palm-side, the distal joint is basically a single, straight crease. The middle joint has an oval shape, with two round creases. Try partially bending your fingers and observe how the skin bunches up. It bunches up the most at this middle joint, so there s a double-fold. You see that same oval design in the proximal joint for the middle and ring fingers, but interestingly, the index and pinky only have a single straight line. Anyway, you don t have to memorize this stuff. Now that you know what to look for, you can always use your own fingers to refresh your memory. The thumb might have a little variety. You ll have one or two creases around the first knuckle. And one or two around the base, called the family ring in palm reading. Perhaps the most famous kind of hand crease, known to predict your future, are the palm folds. This curvey one here is called the life line in palm reading. When the thumb opposes the palm, that thumb muscle mass pinches against the palm and we get a crease along its base. These other two folds, the heart and head lines are caused by the fingers flexing to squeeze the palm. That s some major pinching action in the skin and fat. There s more room for the skin down here at the hypothenar eminence and a lot less room up at the index finger, so these 3 creases will radiate outward. One at the border of the knuckle fat pads, another wrapping around the thumb mass, and one between them. You ll see some vertical folds such as the lines of health and fate, but they ll be more subtle than the first 3. The exact length and curvature of all these lines varies. You might be missing one; it doesn t mean you don t have a fate if you can t find your fate line. When you re drawing the hand in motion, instead of focusing on the permanent creases, focus on the folds created by the motion of the pose you re drawing. !--ここから有料-- !--ここまで-- Skin folds follow the action of the hand, like folds in clothing follow the action of the body. If you arbitrarily copy lots of little lines or try to draw every palm reading crease, it can crowd and stagnate your hand drawing... But if you select lines that show the gesture and the force of the hand, or the movement between the fingers, fold lines can make your drawings stronger! For example, in this drawing I emphasized these creases. The pinky is abducting away from the rest of the fingers. So, the skin is pinching here and stretching here, from the pinky to the other fingers. They echo the gesture of the hand, like action lines in a comic book. If I had focused on just getting the 3 major palm reading lines, it would have detracted from the action. You can put other creases in, just keep them secondary and as light as possible. Of course, an important detail is the fingernails. Try to use fingernails to show perspective, orientation, and form of the finger. Don t worry about the literal shape of the nail, unless it s an important element of your character. How do the fingernails of a lumberjack look compared to a business woman compared to someone who snorts, uh.. charcoal. The shape and length of the nail are telling, as well as nailpolish or dirt. If eyes are the window to the soul, the nails are the other, smaller windows. !--ここから有料-- !--ここまで-- A common mistake is to draw fingernails flat. They re actually rounded. They follow that cylindrical top plane of the rest of the finger. The nail explains if the finger is coming towards or moving away from the viewer in space, and how much. A nail acts as a natural cross-contour line. Its left-to-right angle also explains how the finger is rotated. If you ever draw a finger that just looks off somehow, try redrawing the fingernail. It might fix your problem. It s a good habit to compare the orientation of the thumb s nail to the rest of the fingers, since the thumb actually faces away from the other fingers. It s a common mistake to draw the thumb parallel to the others and flatten out the whole hand. As the thumb reaches across the palm to grab something, it rotates to face the opposite angle of the fingers. Now let s study something I know like the back of my hand. The Back of the Hand 手の甲 The palm side of the hand is very soft; mostly muscle and fat. But the back of the hand is hard. The only muscles visible are around the thumb. In this whole rectangular section you ll see bones, tendons, and veins. Hand veins are irregular, so you can t memorize an exact map like you can with muscles and tendons. But there s still a pattern. Veins are usually tucked into depressions between bones, so they re in less danger of being squished. So on the hand, veins travel between metacarpals. The basilic vein travels down the ulnar side of the hand and the cephalic vein travels down the other side. Minor veins pass down the center of the hand. They cross horizontally towards the knuckles, in this "dorsal venous arch." Avoid drawing too many oblique or horizontal veins proximal to the arch, since veins will mostly be travelling vertically along the metacarpals where it s safe. Through the fingers, veins become thinner and narrower. They won t pop out as much as the veins on the metacarpals, but they might a little. And have some color indication. Veins have a tube form, but don t make their shadows stand out as much as the shadows that show the primary forms of the hand. First of all, veins are going to be flat on younger hands, and you can only see them because of the color. As hands age, veins come to the surface more and will stick out. But even then, their forms are small and tertiary. You don t want to shade chasms right in the middle of your hand; it will break up the form and prevent it from feeling like a cohesive whole. Create a hierarchy with your values and edges. The primary forms should be the most obvious. The blockiness or roundness of the large forms. Then the secondary forms, like the bones and groups of muscles. Details like veins are tertiary forms. The tendons you ll see on the back of the hand are from the extrinsic muscles of the hand. I explained them in the forearms lesson. There s 4 tendons on the back of the hand that radiate out toward the knuckles. And there s two tendons on the back of the thumb that create that hollow snuff box. Notice how the tendons are not visible at the wrist. They start a little bit into the metacarpals because they re surrounded by tendinous sheaths for protection. Then a little farther back in the wrist is the retinaculum. You won t see any individual tendons on the back of the wrist. To prevent tendons from looking like veins, you can contrast their straightness. Tendons are going to be much straighter in their path from wrist to fingertip. Veins will meander down the hand. Veins also have a slightly darker and cooler local color, whereas tendons will match the skin tone or even be a little lighter. You know how when you press on your skin, it turns a lighter tone for a second? The tendons have a similar effect on the color of the skin when they re popping out and putting pressure on the skin. In general, I recommend that you focus on the details that help your picture. If it doesn t serve a purpose, it shouldn t be there. And add variety of shape, value, or edge in areas that tend to repeat. Tendons, segments of the fingers, positioning of the fingers, wrinkles... All these things will look static and boring if they repeat too much. Let the gesture of the pose guide your decisions as to how to add variety. Variations in Characters キャラクターに於ける多様性 !--ここから有料-- !--ここまで-- In the premium version of this lesson I ll show you how to use all these characteristics to draw young, old, masculine and feminine hands. Before I leave you, I want to point out that in reality there s a lot of overlap in these characteristics. Some woman can have masculine hands and some men can have feminine hands. These are just guidelines that can help you design your characters. In the next lesson we re gonna get really hands-on with some drawing demos. I ll show you a drawing process that will make it easier for you to draw hands from reference and even from imagination. You don t want to miss these new lessons, so go sign up for the proko newsletter at proko.com/subscribe! Assignment 課題 But, let s not get ahead of ourselves. Your homework for this lesson is to find your assignment from the hand bones lesson. If you didn t do the bones assignment... With the bone drawings, you already figured out the positioning, proportions, and skeletal forms. Now, you ll draw on top, using a piece of tracing paper traditionally or in a new layer digitally, and turn your drawings into fully-fleshed hands. You ll have to add all the muscles you learned in part 1, and all the surface details you learned in this lesson. This exercise will help you connect your understanding of the skeleton with the surface details. You re inventing this stuff from your imagination, but don t be afraid to look at your own hand, or photos as inspiration.

How to Draw Obliques - Form 外腹斜筋の描き方 - 形状 https //www.youtube.com/watch?v=wWf7_MUiJCQ http //www.proko.com/how-to-draw-obliques-form/ The external oblique is divided into two very distinct portions. The Thoracic Portion and the Flank Portion. The Thoracic Portion 胸部 The Thoracic Portion is the top half of the oblique. The attachments on the ribs create a stair-stepping border that s lower toward the back. This border interdigitates with the serratus anterior muscle and looks like interlocking fingers. The digits of the serratus are more horizontal than the external oblique. The digits of the thoracic portion are commonly confused with the ribs. You can see the forms of one or the other depending on the pose and physique of the model. When the muscle is stretched, and when inhaling, individual ribs can easily be seen through the oblique. When the oblique is flexed, its long, tube-like digits overpower and hide the ribs. Still not sure what you re looking at? !--ここから有料版-- !--ここまで-- The ribs are more horizontal and curve upward where the costal cartilage begins, whereas external oblique bundles are straight and parallel with each other. They travel downward at a 45 degree angle. You ll see one or the other, never both. The lower half of the oblique is called the flank portion. The angle of the fibers is more vertical toward the back, directly connecting the rib cage to the pelvis. This muscle mass creates an unpopular duo with fat. Yeah, I m talking about "muffin tops". Or as I prefer to call them, the "love handles". The basic form resembles a tire or inner tube that you wear around your waist. A tube that stretches and compresses between the rib cage and pelvis. Even on thin individuals and flexing muscle men, the flank portion usually has a smooth, convex form. The local fat smooths over any striations. But of course, there are exceptions. !--ここから有料-- !--ここまで-- Sometimes you ll see a cylindrical continuation of the form along the bottom of the rectus abdominis. This is actually the form of the Internal oblique and transversus abdominis, which we ll learn about in the premium section. There s an important difference between the shape of the skeleton and the shape of the flank. The oblique inserts onto the external edge of the iliac crest, which makes the border of the oblique lower than the border of the iliac crest. This new, lower border has a soft S curve, swooping down under the iliac crest, and then back up wrapping over and to the inside of the ASIS. The ASIS proves to be a trustworthy landmark once again, providing a useful reference for constructing the torso. You ll see either ribs or muscle striations in the thoracic region. The thickest muscle striations are in the middle. And you will almost always see a bulge at the flanks.

How to Draw Legs – The Adductors 脚の描き方-内転筋群 https //www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxMG11ikG3s https //www.proko.com/how-to-draw-legs-the-adductors/#.W5sTnej7Q-U Hi, I m Stan Prokopenko, and this is Proko. We re done having fun with butts. This lesson isn t as stinky, though it s close. We ll study the inner leg muscles - the adductors and sartorius. They re in the upper inner part of the leg. The inguinal ligament separates them from the abs, ASIS to pubic symphysis. The long sartorius muscle separates the adductors from the quads diagonally. The border in the back is not as obvious. It fades away into fat and then suddenly it s the hamstrings. Though in certain poses and mostly on athletic people, you might see where the adductor magnus pops out at the top. It can separate the form of the adductors from the hamstrings. This little section is called the femoral triangle and has nerves, veins, arteries, lymph nodes, and the adductor area in general is prone to having more fat. All this stuff softens the inner leg muscles. This is actually good news for us because we don t need to know the individual adductor muscles, just their overall form and occasionally some tendons toward the top. So, let s get familiar with the simple forms. You know I love simple forms... Up to this point in this course and the figure drawing course, we ve been drawing leg s as simple cylinders, maybe with a bit of taper, getting thinner toward the knee. And that s fine for starting our drawings. But now, since we re learning leg anatomy, we need to be able to take that cylinder and make it into... a leg! Let s say we have this seated pose, legs coming at us. Looking at a cross section, we ll see three main muscle groups. Quadriceps, hamstrings, and adductors. This video is about adductors, so let s group the quads and hamstrings into one large mass. Now, let s look at how a leg is different from a cylinder. In the middle everything is very meaty. You start seeing that indent on the inside where the adductor group attaches to the quads. The front plane is tall and round as the quads project out. Near the knee, the leg isn t cylindrical at all. It s more boxy. The top is meaty, with the quads, and the back is tendinous, with two powerful hamstring tendons on the sides. So, the corners of the box are sharper in the back. It s like a slice of bread. The main mass of the quads and hamstrings is boxy and short at the knee and grows much taller and egg-shaped at the hip. The adductors are like a secondary mass that attach on the inside, shaped like a cone or a wedge. You can see how it s separate from the rest of the leg mass especially in a seated pose like this. The adductor mass hangs down off the leg. The long sartorius muscle actually rounds it out a bit. Without it, the indent between these two forms would be even sharper. Also keep in mind that this area is a major fat storage area. So, that adds to the form and softens the borders. The sartorius is a great rhythm diagonally across the leg. You ll see it as an oblique side plane. So, when we look at it with Bridgman glasses, the quads are a front plane, the sartorius is a side plane, and then the adductors make a triangular front plane, and another side plane as they wrap around to the back. We have 2 "steps" when we think of the front of the leg planarly. The sartorius and the TFL we learned about last time create this hollow triangle into which the quads dive in to. Sometimes you ll see this as an indent, but usually just as a flat vertical plane. Remember that the leg cylinder doesn t start at the ASIS point of the pelvis. We need to drop this vertical for the TFL and sartorius, and then start the leg cylinder a few inches down. See, here it is. Here s another one. The inside of the leg gets this double curve. Look for that when you re designing the flow down the leg. Remember how we talked about asymmetry in the limbs. The contours zig zag down the leg. Because female pelvises are wider, the adductor origins are farther apart. So thin females may have a "thigh gap". Here s a good example of it. Like I said, the simple form is the most important thing to learn about the adductors. There s just a few tendons that you ll commonly see. Usually when the legs are spread apart, thinning out the fat and pulling the tendons tight. You ll see the tendons of the adductors at their origin. Here s a few more example. Ooooh. Aaaah. Assignment 課題 Your assignment is to do quicksketch drawings of the legs from the model photos I ve provided in the description below. Start with the gesture then focus on drawing the forms of the muscle groups, especially the adductors. We haven t studied the others yet, so you can keep them as gestural lines, or cylindrical. But don t just copy the contours.
