HALO3の技術的な事を1プレイヤーが知る限り書いていきます。 ※乱雑に書いています。見やすくまとめるまでしばらくお待ちください。 Sandboxのカスタムマップを作る時にオブジェクトを削除しないほうがいい理由 Xbox LIVEのメンテナンス後はラグい理由 HALO3をHDDにインストールするとロード時間が長くなる理由Xbox360の機能「キャッシュ」 HALO3の仕様 NXEの仕様 それぞれが干渉してロード時間が長くなる どのくらい遅くなるのか 修正される可能性は低い HALO3 ODSTについて インストールすることによるメリット・デメリット 結論 Banhammerの仕様について Sandboxのカスタムマップを作る時にオブジェクトを削除しないほうがいい理由 執筆中 Xbox LIVEのメンテナンス後はラグい理由 執筆中 HALO3をHDDにインストールするとロード時間が長くなる理由 2008年11月19日に実施されたXbox360のアップデート、New Xbox Experience(NXE)において追加された機能の1つであるハードディスクインストール。 この機能をHALO3で使うとロード時間が長くなる不具合が出ています。 「Halo 3」関連情報 ハードディスクへの取り込みに関するご注意 http //xbox.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!378FEC038C02D52C!10621.entry ここでは、上記ページのさらなる解説と補足を書いていきます。 Xbox360の機能「キャッシュ」 Xbox360には、DVDに収録されているデータを読み込む際、その一部をHDDにコピー、再ロード時にそこから読み込むことによって、再ロード時間を短縮する機能が備わっています。(この機能は特許取得済みだそうです) このキャッシュ生成はXbox360にHDDが装着されている場合に使われ、HDDが装着されていない場合は使用されません。 キャッシュが生成される場所はHDDにあらかじめ確保されているシステム領域(約6GB)の一部になります。 詳しい容量はMicrosoftのこちらのページへ→http //support.microsoft.com/kb/911593/ja このキャッシュ領域はXbox360の全ゲーム共通で使われ(使用義務は無い)、他のゲームを起動した際には前のゲームのキャッシュを消去するようになっています。 HALO3のシアターで保存していないフィルムが消えてしまうのは、一時保存フィルムがキャッシュに保存されているので、他のゲームを起動した時に削除されるためです。 HALO3の仕様 HALO3はXbox360のゲームの中でも積極的にキャッシュを使うゲームになります。 HALO3ではキャッシュをマップデータと一時保存のフィルムに使っています。 キャッシュに保持されるのはマッチメイキングの場合、最近使われたマップ3つ分となっています。 例:執筆中 NXEの仕様 NXEのHDDインストール機能はDVDのデータを丸ごと保存し、仮想ドライブとすることによってゲームの起動を可能にしていると思われます。 そのため、ゲームからは起動がDVDからなのか、HDDからなのかの認識はできないと思われます。 (仕様が明らかになっていないので詳しくはわかりません。認識できるのかもしれませんが、 HALO3は2007年に発売されたゲームであり、HDDインストールを考えた設計にはなっていないので認識はできません。) それぞれが干渉してロード時間が長くなる DVD/HDDでのマッチメイキングの読み込みの挙動について見てみましょう。 DVDから起動 DVD:DVD→Xbox360のメモリーへマップを読み込み→ゲーム開始の準備完了 HDD: └→マップをHDDへコピー(書き込み) HDDから起動 DVD:何もしない HDD:HDD→Xbox360のメモリーへマップを読み込みと同時にHDDの別の場所へマップをコピー→ゲーム開始の準備完了 このように例としてですが文字数分、HDDインストールした場合に長くなっているのがわかると思います。 DVDの場合はDVDとHDDという2つのデバイスで読み込み、書き込みを分担しているのに対して、 HDDの場合はHDD上で読み込み、書き込みを同時に行っているのでHDDのヘッド(読み書きする針)が読み込み部分と書き込み部分を行ったり来たりしてしまい時間が掛かるのです。 どのくらい遅くなるのか DVD/HDD共に2回目の読み込み(再ロード)はキャッシュから読み込む同様の挙動なので、DVD/HDD共にロード時間は変わりません。 DLCマップはHDD上にしか存在しないので、DVD/HDD共にロード時間は同じになるはずです。 →別ページ執筆中 このようにローカル(各Xbox360)では3秒程遅くなる程度です。 ですが、マッチメイキングでの読み込みが終わったという確認の同期が瞬時ではなく数秒毎に行われているのかわかりませんが、 実際にはさらに待ち時間は長くなります。 修正される可能性は低い NXEの仕様で書いたとおり、ゲーム側からは起動がDVDからなのかHDDからないと思われます。 そのため、この問題を解決するには ●HALO3がどこから起動されているかを認識させるようにし、それぞれの挙動を変える(HALO3独自のHDD認識機能の追加) →後述のリスクが伴う ●キャッシュを生成させないようにする →DVDから読み込む際にもキャッシュは生成されなくなるので、再ロード時にはDVDからでもロード時間が長くなってしまう。 これらの修正パッチを作るにあたって膨大な時間(開発や副作用のバグ潰し等)がかかり、 場合によってはゲームが起動しなくなる可能性もあるとのこと。 これを作るよりはBungieとしてはHALO3:ODSTの開発や他のプロジェクトに時間を割いていたいはずです。 HALO3 ODSTについて HALO3 ODSTのマッチメイキング部分はHALO3と共通(HALO3とODSTで対戦可能)との公式発表がありました。 この場合、共通というのは対戦が共通ということなのでローカル(各Xbox360)システムが違っても問題はありません。 読み込み問題はローカルの問題なので、ODSTでの修正は可能と思われます。 インストールすることによるメリット・デメリット ●メリット DVDドライブのスピンドルモーターは完全に停止するのでそれによる低発熱化、低消費電力化、DVDドライブの負荷軽減によりXbox360にとっては非常に優しい状態になります。 (Xbox360の故障のほとんどの原因はこのDVDドライブ関連です。) ●デメリット 初回読み込み時間が長くなる 結論 インストールするかしないかはあなたの自由です。 Banhammerの仕様について
