English We propose TCP-Fusion supporting RTT (Round Trip Time) fairness in addition to throughput efficiency and friendliness to TCP-Reno. When multiple TCP flows having different RTT values compete, more bandwidth is unfairly allocated to the flow having smaller RTT. This means that a user with longer RTT may not be able to obtain sufficient bandwidth by the current methods. Experiments are carried out to validate the proposed method and much better performances in RTT fairness and throughput are provided against conventional methods.

Coming out from Shadows Identity of Ethnic Japanese in the Philippines in the Post-war Period Mariko Iijima Abstract This paper focuses on identity formation of Japanese-Filipinos, who did not publicly embrace their Japanese identity until the 1990s. Unlike people of Japanese ancestry in North and South America, most Japanese-Filipinos were left behind in the Philippines after WWII and were forced to disguise their identity in a country where anti-Japanese sentiment was widespread. However, after Japanese immigration regulations were revised in 1990, Japanese-Filipinos began to seek their roots and get reacquainted with their Japanese identity. One issue I will examine in this paper is the question of why Japanese-Filipinos have waited so long to explore their identity. Now that Japanese-Filipinos can work legally in Japan, one of the reasons they have been going back to Japan is because the country offers better economic opportunities. Yet there are other reasons why Japanese-Filipinos have decided to get in touch with their Japanese identity, and I will also explore this issue from a political, historical, and social perspective. In addition, this paper will highlight the diversity of Japanese-Filipinos, who can be roughly divided into three groups those who were left behind in the Philippines after World War II; those who returned to Japan shortly after the war ended; and children whose fathers are Japanese and mothers are Filipino. By exploring these three "sub-ethnicities" and the way in which Japanese-Filipinos have recently embraced their multi-cultural identity, I hope to enrich Nikkeijin studies and shed light on the increasingly complex process of identity formation among ethnic Japanese in today s global society. (title of presentation) Yuukichi Niwayama Abstract I begin by briefly explaining the history of Japanese Canadians from the early stages of migration to Canada to incarceration during World War Ⅱ. Then I explain their transformation from ‘Japanese in Canada’ to ‘Japanese Canadian’. Japanese Canadians had to rebuild a broken community after the war, since their community had been decentralized by Canadian government policy. Many of them had to move to eastern Canada. In 1949, Japanese Canadians regained citizenship and were permitted to come back to British Columbia. Some went back while others chose to settle in eastern Canada, for they were in the process of adjusting themselves to their new locales. Issei (first generation Japanese Canadians) and Nisei(second generation) tried to assimilate themselves to the Canadian mainstream. Then there came the time when Sansei(third generation) took the initiative in the community. Sansei grew up immersed in Canadian society. They were outraged by the way the treatment of their families during the war violated fundamental human rights. After Japanese Canadian Centennial, held in 1977, there was a growing tendency to look back on their history. Japanese Canadians organized a committee in order to obtain an apology and compensation for the way their community’s rights had been violated during the war. The redress movement, which developed during the1980s, triggered solidarity among Japanese Canadians. The activists in the movement and some Sansei often used the word Nikkei for the purpose of uniting dispersed Japanese Canadians of all generations. The word Nikkei is the most recognizable word among Japanese Canadians whatever their generation might be. The word plays a symbolic role in maintaining and reinforcing Japanese Canadians’ network.
